Chelsea boost as Timo Werner returns to full training ahead of Leicester clash

Timo Werner is back in Chelsea training after missing five matches with a hamstring injury.

The German sat out Germany’s international fixtures this month after pulling up during October’s Champions League clash with Malmo.

On Thursday, the Blues confirmed his return to full training with an image of Werner working alongside the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic. The American should also be fit for the weekend after coming off the bench for his country on Tuesday.

Thomas Tuchel is, however, set to be without Romelu Lukaku for the lunchtime trip to Leicester. The Belgian is in light training with a view to returning to match action next week.

Chelsea have only failed to score twice all season, also hitting seven past Norwich and three past Newcastle during Werner and Lukaku’s absences, yet questions have been raised over Tuchel’s frontline.

Werner has only scored once in seven Premier League appearances and full-back Reece James is their top league scorer on four goals.

There was more good news for the Blues with Mason Mount and Marcos Alonso taking part in full training after overcoming dental surgery and an ankle issue, respectively. N’Golo Kante, Havertz and Jorginho also featured having returned from international duties.
