Chelsea boost as ‘Liverpool’s £40m bid rejected for Romeo Lavia’

Liverpool have reportedly seen an opening offer for Romeo Lavia rejected by Southampton.

The Belgian midfielder is said to be valued at £50million by the Saints with Liverpool joined by Chelsea and Arsenal in being touted to bid.

According to The Athletic and Sky Sports, an official approach on Tuesday was rebuffed by the Championship club - with the fee on offer named at around the £40m mark.

Liverpool have not agreed personal terms with Lavia, 19, but it is claimed that such a hurdle will not be difficult to overcome if the two clubs can agree on his price.

The Belgium international has caught the eye of Chelsea, Standard Sport reported earlier this week, amid their attempts to cash in on Conor Gallagher.

A midfield revamp has seen a number of targets shortlisted by the Blues, who are focused on securing an agreement with Brighton for the £100m-rated Moises Caicedo.

Celta Vigo youngster Gabri Veiga and Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus have also been identified.
