Chelsea block Malang Sarr exit after Fulham bid as defender hunt continues amid multiple transfer blows

Fulham have made bids for Chelsea’s Malang Sarr and West Ham’s Issa Diop as they bid to strengthen their defence before the start of the new season.

But Chelsea have blocked a move for Sarr until they sign a new centre-back themselves, and West Ham are reluctant to lose Diop because summer signing Nayef Aguerd is injured.

Fulham manager Marco Silva has warned the club are not ready for their opening game against Liverpool at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Asked if his side were prepared for the new season, Silva said on Sunday: “No. These players are ready for the Premier League.

“I congratulate them for the work they have been doing. They were fantastic last season and they are working really hard. But we as a squad are not ready.”

Fulham have reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign goalkeeper Bernd Leno for around £8million.

The German is expected to undergo a medical this week and personal terms are already in place.

Fulham have made three permanent signings this summer, after the arrivals of Joao Palhinha, Andreas Pereira and Kevin Mbabu. They have also brought in Manor Solomon on loan.
