Chelsea have reportedly taken gifted Wrexham teenager Daniel Davies on trial, despite interest from Liverpool and a glut of other Premier League clubs.
A number of bright young talents have left Stamford Bridge in recent months, with Tino Livramento, Myles Peart-Harris and Lewis Bate among those to join other top flight clubs this summer.
The Blues are subsequently keen to replenish their youth ranks, and have taken their first steps towards snapping up Welsh youngster Davies as part of a drive to snap up the best and brightest non-league talents.
According to Goal, 16-year-old Davies has also attracted interest from Anfield, as well as Brighton and Stoke City, but it seems Chelsea are currently fronting the queue.
Should his one-week trial prove successful and result in a contract offer, reports suggest Chelsea would not even have to pay any compensation to Wrexham, who are currently pushing for a return to the EFL under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Davies primarily operates as a left-back, and was handed chance to impress with the first team in the pre-season clashes with Burnley and Fleetwood Town.
His athleticism has already drawn comparisons with Gareth Bale, who also started his career as a full-back.
He was also handed a call-up to the Wales under-18s set-up recently, much to the delight of Wrexham's Head of Youth Dan Nolan.
He said: “Dan is the fourth Wales call-up in the last two years. As a 16-year-old that’s a fantastic achievement for him.
“He’s probably only had six or 12 months real football with Wrexham since we signed him as a 14-year-old, so to get a call-up so quickly as a scholar I think is fantastic.
“He’s a great lad, with a great attitude. He’s physically really strong and developing all the time technically and tactically so it’s a great starting point for him.”
