Chelsea are close to completing two key positions in Frank Lampard's summer rebuild

Frank Lampard and Chelsea are wasting no time in the transfer market as they prepare for the 2020/21 season.

Unable to bring in players at Stamford Bridge 12 months ago due to the club's transfer ban, the Blues have already made a major statement despite the fact the summer transfer window has only been open for 11 days.

Clinching a deal for Ajax ace Hakim Ziyech in February, the club announced in June that Timo Werner would be swapping RB Leipzig for west London in a big-money move.

That's only the start of Chelsea's summer plans, with Kai Havertz expected to be the next player to sign on the dotted line.

Frank Lampard delighted with Chelsea season

Bayer Leverkusen's 2019/20 campaign is still ongoing due to their involvement in the Europa League and a deal for the 21-year-old may have to wait until their season comes to an end.

The German international has made a huge impression in the Bundesliga since making his debut back in 2016 and Chelsea will be hoping he can repeat his form and hit another level once a move is finalised.

While Lampard still has to do some business in terms of strengthening his defence due to the amount of goals they have conceded this term, his attack is looking rather mouthwatering following the additions of Ziyech, Werner and Havertz when he signs.

The highly-rated youngster has demonstrated over the past four years that he can play in a number of positions, although he has been predominately used as an attacking midfielder or right winger.

Once a move is done and dusted for the German then it will see Lampard complete two major positions in his Chelsea rebuild.

Already well stocked in attacking areas this term, the Blues will be without Pedro next season after he agreed to join Serie A giants Roma following the expiration of his contract in SW6.

Willian is also expected to follow the Spaniard out of the door as the club will not increase their two-year contract offer with the player looking for an extra year on top of that.

Both right wingers by trade, Lampard has already moved to address the issue with the signing of Ziyech from Ajax.

The addition of Havertz then completes the position as he has operated there regularly for Bayer Leverkusen even though he has mainly been used as an attacking midfielder, with academy product Callum Hudson-Odoi also another option for the head coach on the right.

The Aachen-born player's upcoming move also means Lampard doesn't need to worry about bringing in another signing to operate in the No.10 role.

A position he is likely to take up playing behind either Werner or Olivier Giroud, Chelsea already have plenty of other options to play in the creative role.

Summer arrival Ziyech could potentially be used there at times instead of the right wing as he has two goals and 12 assists to his name from 13 games there for Ajax in 2019/20.

Mason Mount, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek remain options to play as a No.10, although reports have suggested that the ex-Everton man could be the one to depart if Lampard decides to move someone on following his summer business.

With Christian Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi and Werner options on the left wing and the German international, Giroud, Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi, providing he remains in the capital, Lampard's choices upfront, the club's record goalscorer is putting together a very good attack as he bids to see his side challenge at the top and for major honours
