Chelsea appear to list two new squad additions before quickly deleting from website

Chelsea appear to have accidentally announced the signing of Benjamin Mendy and Lauren James after putting their shirt for next season on sale.

Mendy has been hit by a succession of significant injuries in recent seasons and has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City.

He has made only 12 appearances in the Premier League this season as Pep Guardiola’s side have marched to their third title in four years, with the Frenchman mainly left on the bench.

With Mendy out of contract in two years’ time, the defender would appear likely to be a casualty of Guardiola’s expected squad rebuild in the upcoming transfer window.

With rumours growing of the 26-year-old’s expected departure, it seems Chelsea may have revealed he will be moving to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Mendy’s name has appeared on the list of options for Blues fans to choose from when personalising the name on the back of their shirt on the club’s online shop.

The left-back is not to be confused with current Blues keeper Eduoard Mendy, who has his own option for fans wanting his name on their new kit.

City player Mendy is not the only ‘new’ signing among the Chelsea squad, with the website listing players from both the men’s and women’s teams.

Also named is Manchester United Women winger Lauren James, who is the sister of current Chelsea star Reece.

James has previously been linked with a move to Emma Hayes’ side, having helped the Red Devils to two successive fourth-place finishes in the Women’s Super League.

Both her name and Mendy’s were subsequently removed from the personalisation options on the online store.

Chelsea revealed their new kit for next season on Thursday, with Thomas Tuchel’s side set to wear it for the first time in the FA Cup Final on Saturday.
