Chelsea and Tottenham in 'frequent contact' with Kalidou Koulibaly's entourage over transfer

Chelsea and Tottenham are reportedly in 'frequent contact' with the entourage of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly over a potential transfer.

Koulibaly has experienced a mixed season amid Napoli's chaotic campaign which saw them sack boss Carlo Ancelotti, now at Everton .

But he remains a target for top European clubs with two Premier League sides eyeing a January swoop.

According to Corriere del Mezzorgiono , both Chelsea and Tottenham are in contact with representatives of the player as they consider tabling a bid.

Koulibaly was the subject of a big bid from Jose Mourinho when he was Manchester United manager last year, which was rejected before they splashed out a world-record fee on Harry Maguire in the summer.

Koulibaly has also been linked with Arsenal as Mikel Arteta aims to strengthen his defence.

Napoli's struggles could see them cash-in on the centre-back, with chief Aurelio De Laurentiis admitting recently they may be forced to sell their star man.

Speaking in October, De Laurentiis told Sky Sport Italia: “I loved Koulibaly the man so I refused €105m, but a time will come when I’ll have to sell him. Whoever says we didn’t improve our defence is wrong."

Despite being tipped to leave the club, Koulibaly downplayed speculation over his future in October by insisting he remains committed to winning trophies in Italy.

"I'm used to it. So many [stories] come out each day, which say I'm leaving," said Koulibaly.

"Right now, my only objective is to win with Napoli. I don't care about the rest.

"Our objective remains to beat the best teams in Italy and win the title. This season is more difficult because all the teams have got stronger and Serie A has become more competitive.

"I haven't made the best start to the season. Juventus remain the team to beat. For our part, we must work even harder, improving our game to get closer to them."
