Chelsea and Tottenham hit with major blow as summer target finds transfer agreement

Chelsea and Tottenham are reportedly set to be handed a major transfer blow with target Ilaix Moriba on the verge of joining RB Leipzig.

According to Sky Deutschland, the Bundesliga outfit have an agreement with the young midfielder over a move to the Red Bull Arena.

He is apparently set to pen a five-year deal with the German club and will become Marcel Sabitzer’s replacement in Leipzig, who is set to depart for their Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

The move for Moriba has certainly been a complicated affair having failed to come to an agreement with Barcelona over a new deal.

Despite impressing during his breakthrough campaign at the Camp Nou, he has been forced to train with the reserves with his contract set to expire next summer.

As a result, he had been linked to a number of clubs throughout Europe, most notably Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, RB Leipzig and Atalanta. However, it is the Germans who appear to have struck a deal to secure his services this summer.

Both Spurs and Chelsea seemingly remain keen to bolster their midfield options ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have already made a few key decisions in the department having sold Moussa Sissoko to Watford, whilst Pape Matarr Sarr has been recruited from Metz but he is set to return to his former club on-loan. The north London outfit have recently been linked with Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma.

Elsewhere, Chelsea have also been linked to a number of midfielders as well as Moriba including Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez. The Spaniard now appears set to remain at the Wanda Metropolitano this season despite previous reports of a potential loan deal.
