Chelsea and Tottenham 2019/20 Champions League fate predicted ahead of group stage draw

Chelsea and Tottenham are eagerly awaiting Thursday's Champions League group stage draw in Monaco, where their continental path for the 2019/20 season will be mapped out.

Both London clubs enter the competition with success from last term, with the Blues defeating Arsenal in the Europa League final and Spurs finishing runners-up after losing to Liverpool in Madrid.

Achieving similar success this term will not be an easy task, with the titans across Europe strengthening their squads ahead of an assault for the famous trophy.

Predicting the fate of both teams is not an easy task but that is what BT Sport's the Script has done, with number crunches from Squawka, Google and Opta putting together an in-depth prediction for the campaign.

This includes Chelsea and Tottenham in the Champions League, where the two sides endured significantly different campaigns - and it's one to forget for Spurs in terms of Europe's elite competition.

Mauricio Pochettino was unable to steer Spurs through the group stages, with a third-place finish seeing the Lilywhites enter the Europa League knockout stages.

Frank Lampard: I'm celebrating with wine and a baby monitor

Better fortune was to be found in this competition though, as Pochettino guided Spurs to glory - securing his first piece of silverware for the North London side.

Meanwhile, Frank Lampard managed to navigate past the first hurdle with the Blues in his first taste of continental action as a manager and got the better of Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16 stage.

A monumental task followed in the quarter-finals though as the Blues were paired alongside Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid, who had a campaign to forget last term but will return to the competition with a vengeance this season.

Los Blancos put Chelsea to the sword in a 4-2 aggregate victory, with Zidane's side going on to defeat Barcelona and Bayern Munich to lift the famous trophy once again.
