Chelsea and Man Utd fans laugh at Tottenham over Troy Deeney, Jadon Sancho and Kai Havertz links

Tottenham are unlikely to spend big in the summer transfer window.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit the club hard with big money unlikely to be available to head coach Jose Mourinho to improve his squad.

Spurs finished sixth in the Premier League in a season in which Mauricio Pochettino was sacked and replaced by Mourinho.

It was the first year in five that the club had failed to qualify for the Champions League and leaves the Portuguese with an uphill battle to get the club back into Europe's elite competition.

Tottenham are not likely to be alone in cutting costs and worrying about their budget, with supporters not due to be allowed in stadiums when the season returns on September 12 either, with social distancing rules still in place.

But, despite that, a number of Spurs' rivals are plotting big business this summer.

Chelsea have already signed two new players in the form of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner for around £85million, with Kai Havertz tipped to join them in a deal that could be worth up to £90million.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a big-money move for Jadon Sancho, while Manchester City have had a £41million bid for Nathan Ake accepted and are expected to confirm a deal for Ferran Torres too.

Tottenham have been linked with a number of players already, including a big-money move for Southampton's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but rival clubs are making fun of the calibre of players they have been linked to compared with them.

Troy Deeney is the latest name to be connected with Spurs on a season-long loan deal, having been relegated this season.

The difference in transfer links between clubs has not been lost on rival fans.

Does Mourinho need money to make big signings next season, or can he get the club firing without new additions?

Time will tell.
