Chelsea and Leicester could both face heavy fines after being charged by the Football Association following Battle of the Bridge II.
Both sets of players, coaching staff and stewards were involved in a mass brawl in injury time at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
It is believed to have been sparked after Chelsea ’s former Leicester full back Ben Chilwell was fouled but then kicked off because of Leicester’s FA Cup final celebrations.
Leicester’s Daniel Amartey was shown on social media throwing a Chelsea pennant to the floor in their Wembley dressing room and that enraged several Chelsea players while Amartey was booked on Tuesday night for his part in the bust-up.
Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger said after the game on Tuesday: “After we lost the final we talked with each other, that it’s a massive game coming up and we are on it. Some people from them gave us a bit more motivation.
“Congratulations to them, they won, celebrate and everything. But don’t disrespect club history. This is a bit bigger than you.”
Chelsea were involved in a major bust-up with Tottenham in 2016 after a feisty game which was billed as Battle of the Bridge with both clubs getting heavy fines totalling £600,000 between them.
It would be hard to imagine such punishments would be dished out again but there is no set tariff for the breach of FA Rule E20.1. Both managers played down the incident post-match and are likely to defend themselves to the FA.
Chelsea and Leicester are “alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or club officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.”
They both have until Tuesday May 25 to respond to the FA charge.
