Chelsea and Frank Lampard handed major Ruben Loftus-Cheek injury boost

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard appears to have been handed some welcome injury news.

A number of fitness issues has marred the Blues' start to the new season.

N'Golo Kante has been in and out of the side, Antonio Rudiger suffered a setback on his return to the side, while Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi are yet to make a competitive appearance.

Furthermore, there was a massive injury scare when Mason Mount limped off early in the first-half of the Champions League group stage loss at home to Valencia on Tuesday night.

The midfielder was on the receiving end of a strong challenge from ex-Arsenal ace Francis Coquelin and despite attempting to carry on was eventually replaced by Pedro.

With that said, Mount himself may have provided some positive news, saying that he is 'hopeful' of being fit for the Premier League encounter with Liverpool at the weekend.

And the good news keeps coming.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek who picked up an Achilles injury during an end of season friendly prior to the Europa League final against Arsenal appears to be making good progress in his rehabilitation.

Taking to social media, teammate Jorginho uploaded an image of Loftus-Cheek in the swimming pool to his official Instagram with the caption which reads: "Come on Papaiiii" with five muscle emojis.

Our Chelsea writer Oliver Harbord gave his thoughts on when fans can expect to see Loftus-Cheek back in action during an Q&A session with fans earlier in the month where he said November is a realistic time frame.

"It is still a few weeks until Chelsea fans are expected to see Ruben Loftus-Cheek back in action for Chelsea's first team.

"The earliest is likely to be back October time, but he probably wouldn’t be back to match fitness until the beginning of November."

Having Loftus-Cheek available will certainly boost Lampard's midfield options during the winter months.

Some fans believe the 23-year-old will be hot on the heels of Mount for a place in the Blues' strongest XI once fully fit.

What is for sure is he will be at Chelsea in the long-term having signed a contract extension in the summer.
