Chelsea and Frank Lampard handed injury boost ahead of Tottenham clash

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has provided an injury update on his squad ahead of the weekend's London derby with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues make the short journey to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looking to turn around their poor recent form that has seen them lose three of their last four league games.

A loss will see Tottenham leapfrog Chelsea in fourth position in the table, with just three points separating the two teams in fourth and fifth place.

Olivier Giroud, Fikayo Tomori and Ross Barkley were all injury doubts for the match, but speaking in his pre-match press conference of Friday, Lampard has provided an update on the injury status of his squad, including the long-term injury of Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

"Ruben Loftus-Cheek is making good progress, which is really positive, but nowhere near contention for match play," he said.

"Other than that, we have a fit squad. Nice selection problems. Ross if fine. Tomori is fine. Giroud is fine. They’re all fine, I think.”

Loftus-Cheek has been out of action since rupturing his achilles tendon in the friendly against New England Revolution at the end of last season.

The player posted a video of himself training outside on social media during the week, although there is still no return date for the England international.
