Chelsea and former Rangers youngster Billy Gilmour scores double in friendly win

Billy Gilmour has continued the fine form he showed before the shutdown with a double in his first game back.

The Scottish youngster scored twice in Chelsea's 7-1 win over Queen's Park Rangers on Sunday.

Glasgow-born Gilmour came up through the ranks at Ibrox before leaving Rangers for Chelsea in July 2017. The 19-year-old has 12 Scotland under-21 caps to his name, and his form earlier this year had many speculating about a potential call-up to Steve Clarke's senior side.

Gilmour received consecutive man-of-the-match awards for Frank Lampard's team in March, first against Liverpool in the FA Cup and then against Everton in the Premier League.

His superb performance against Liverpool attracted praise from Manchester United legend Roy Keane, who said on Sky Sports: ""I was at home with a cup of tea and a bit of chocolate in front of me, and I didn't have the volume on.

"As the game started I literally got out of my seat, which I very rarely do, and I thought 'Who is this kid in midfield?'

"There's certain traits you want from a midfielder, whether it be quality on the ball, football intelligence, composure, he had everything.

"It was one of the best performances I've seen in a long, long time."

Chelsea's first competitive match since the shutdown takes place on Sunday when they take on Aston Villa at Villa Park.
