Chelsea already know three AC Milan dangers ahead of £97m transfer audition

Chelsea will look to finally make a mark in the Champions League this season when they host AC Milan on Wednesday evening, with Graham Potter's side taking just one point from their opening two group stage matches.

A 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb proved to be the final nail in the coffin for ex-manager Thomas Tuchel before Potter's first match in the Chelsea dugout saw his side draw 1-1 with RB Salzburg and Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are currently bottom of Group E with their next opponents AC Milan sitting top with four points from their first two matches.

The Italian juggernaut and reigning Serie A champions are currently fifth in the Italian top flight with their only defeat this campaign coming against league leaders Napoli.

Potter's side will have their work cut out for them against their main rivals on paper to win the group, but which Milan players should Chelsea be wary of?

Fikayo Tomori

A player Chelsea fans will be familiar with, Blues academy graduate Tomori has excelled since making the move to Italy in search of regular game time. The Englishman's absence from the latest England squad was ridiculed by many Three Lions supporters and he will undoubtedly be looking to prove a point upon his return to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The 24-year-old was a kingpin for the Rossoneri last term as they won their first league title since the 2010/11 season and has started all but one game across all competitions this campaign.

Stefano Pioli's side have conceded 11 goals in their 10 matches this season, an average of just 1.1 per match and the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling will have to be at the top of their game to get past Tomori and co.

Rafael Leao

Currently one of Europe's most exciting prospects, Leao has started this season where he left off last. The Portuguese winger scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 42 matches last term and already has four goals and seven assists in nine appearances this season.

The 23-year-old will be one of Milan's most deadly players in the final third with excellent creativity and an eye for goal too, picking up a goal and an assist in last weekend's 3-1 win at Empoli.

Reece James in particular will be the defender tasked with keeping Leao quiet and, if the English right-back succeeds, then Chelsea's chances of getting their first win in Europe this term will be significantly boosted. Leao has regularly been linked with a move to the Blues and would reportedly cost around £97m to sign.

Olivier Giroud

Like Tomori, another former Chelsea player will be returning to Stamford Bridge in Olivier Giroud. The former Blues and Arsenal striker left west London last summer having scored 39 goals in 119 appearances for Chelsea and has been excellent for Milan despite turning 36 last week.

The Frenchman is the Italian outfit's current top scorer with five goals across all competitions and five goals and two assists in his last seven appearances for both club and country. Moreover, his recent effort for Les Bleus against Austria saw the striker go just three goals from becoming France's all-time top scorer ahead of Thierry Henry.

A physical presence in the box, Chelsea's defenders will be well aware of the threat Giroud possesses and will have to be alert to his intelligent movement.
