Chelsea 'ahead' of Man Utd in Tottenham Harry Kane transfer race amid Mauricio Pochettino call

Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes that Chelsea potentially have two key advantages over Manchester United if they are to join the race for Harry Kane this summer. The striker is out of contract in just over 12-months, with doubts over whether he will continue with Spurs or leave the club.

The 29-year-old has already broken both the Tottenham and England national team all-time goal scoring records in the past few months, cementing his legacy. Though the one question that remains is whether he will have any trophies to show for it when he hangs his boots up.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy insisted that Kane can win trophies at Tottenham in a rare interview with the Cambridge Union debating society. He claimed: "He can absolutely win a trophy at Spurs, but being a legend is also important. The fact that he’s the top scorer for Tottenham Hotspur, he’s making history. I hope one day there is a statue of Harry Kane outside our stadium.”

Until there's clarity over his future, rumours will continue to swirl over his next destination, with Manchester United heavily linked with a move. However, there have been some suggestions that Chelsea may join the race, with the potential for a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino, who appears to be the standout candidate for the vacant managerial job at Stamford Bridge.

Former Spurs boss Redknapp has tipped Kane to stay at the club, but does believe that the Blues have an advantage over United if they were to make a move for Kane. He told Beyond The Pitch: "If Pochettino’s there, I’m sure Harry got on well with him, and it’s a great move for him, not far from where I think he’s building a house in that area.

"He’s a family man and he’d be quite happy not moving to the north of England or wherever he’d have to go. I don’t see him going abroad, I really don’t. The only club that would interest him is a Real Madrid, and I don’t see that happening. I’ve got a feeling he’ll stay at Tottenham.”
