Chelsea 'agree to Maurizio Sarri release' as Blues boss closes in on Juventus job

Maurizio Sarri has moved a step closer towards a Chelsea exit - paving the way for Frank Lampard to return to Stamford Bridge.

Sarri’s representatives met with Chelsea executives on Friday with Juventus keen to appoint the 60-year-old Italian as their next manager.

Chelsea boss Sarri led the club to third in the table and also the Europa League but the fans have never taken to him and he could be keen on a return to Italy.

Chelsea would see Lampard as a potential successor this summer and the ex-England midfielder would find it hard to resist leaving Derby if his old club come calling.

Reports in Italy suggest that Chelsea will release Sarri from his contract with a £5m release clause written into his contract.

Juventus want Sarri to replace Max Allegri and it could be the perfect way out for Chelsea who are facing a two window transfer ban.

That is another appeal of Lampard because he has championed young talent in his first year at Derby.

Lampard would have to look to more home grown youngsters rather than expensive bits to take the club forward and Chelsea feel a club legend would also be a popular choice among the fans.
