Chelsea agree pay cut with first-team squad and Frank Lampard

Chelsea have agreed to a 10% pay cut with their first-team squad.

football.london understands that talks were led by club captain Cesar Azpilicueta and club director Marina Granovskaia, discussions were amicable and the players negotiated for a 10% reduction and have also been told there will be no incentives to recoup the money.

Meanwhile, Blues head coach Frank Lampard taking a cut of 25% and those talks were with Granovskaia and separate to players.

This was first reported by the Telegraph and the cuts are expected to last for four months from May.

Chelsea follow in the footsteps of London rivals Arsenal by reaching an agreement with the first-team squad to pay-cut, although it's not the 30% as recommended by the Premier League.

As expected, Chelsea have not furloughed any off-field staff and have committed to paying their casual matchday workers, including caterers, stewards and hospitality workers.

And the west London outfit continue to do their bit to help the local community during the coronavirus pandemic.

The club is planning to open the Copthorne Hotel at Stamford Bridge to NHS workers requiring accommodation after the Millennium Hotel reached capacity.

The Copthorne Hotel has 160 rooms and will be available without charge to frontline staff between shifts or those who may have family members considered vulnerable or in self-isolation.

It is a move spearheaded by owner Roman Abramovich, who came up with the initial idea to open the Millennium Hotel in mid-March.

While the club have already revealed a commitment to local charities through their foundation, backed by first-team players who have made a significant donation, senior staff members have been encouraged to come up with other proposals to assist key workers and the vulnerable.

Last week the club said that they would provide 78,000 meals for health and social care workers over an initial six weeks which will be available to the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

The trust runs five hospitals in the area.

A number of charities, including Age UK and Refuge, have also received backing from the Chelsea Foundation.
