Chelsea agree Anthony Barry deal with Bayern Munich as Thomas Tuchel reunion sealed

Bayern Munich are close to agreeing a £1million compensation fee with Chelsea for coach Anthony Barry.

The set-piece specialist will link up again with Thomas Tuchel in Germany having been his highly-respected coach at Stamford Bridge.

Barry had been forced to put a move to Bavaria on hold as both clubs waited for the results of their respective Champions League last-eight ties.

There was a possibility that Chelsea could face Bayern in the semi-finals of the competition, but both sides were knocked out this week by Real Madrid and Manchester City respectively.

That has allowed the impasse blocking the move, amid fears that Barry could give tactical insights away, to be put to an end.

Barry had been brought to Chelsea initially by Frank Lampard in 2020 and worked under successors Tuchel and Graham Potter.

Lampard has brought in his own backroom staff since returning to the club as interim coach, including Ashley Cole. Former long-term Blues coaches Chris Jones and Joe Edwards have also returned to the Bridge.

The other coaching roles have been filled by Cobham academy staff after Chelsea could not bring in Paul Clement, who worked with Lampard at Everton.

Potter remains out of work and his extensive group of coaching staff are on gardening leave, pending future job offers.

They are all loyal to Potter and didn’t want to remain working under a new coach at Chelsea, who sit 11th in the Premier League and are out of all cup competitions during what has been a hugely disappointing first season under the new Todd Boehly-Clearlake ownership regime.
