Chefs furloughed from Glasgow's Ox and Finch and Ka Pao share their secret recipes

Two Scots furloughed chefs are taking their expertise to the masses on lockdown by sharing their top tips and secret recipes online.

Kevin McCafferty and Nicolle Finnie have been a couple for almost two years.

But the lovebirds from Renfrew, Renfrewshire have been 'butting heads' since the country first went into lockdown last March and they were both furloughed.

With both boasting jobs at some of Glasgow's top food joints; Kevin, Ox and Finch and Nicolle, Ka Pao, and a string of cooking accolades, the pair were at a loss when Covid-19 first hit and dining out was ground to a halt.

Now in lockdown 2.0, the pair decided to take their skills and help Scots stuck indoors, needing some culinary inspiration and launched Dos Cocineros.

The Instagram page, which translates as, Two Chefs, in Spanish, provides amazing tips, tricks and ideas, which accommodate even the tightest of budgets.

Kevin, 25, told the Record: "We started sharing pictures of what we were making for dinner on our personal, private Instagram accounts.

"People would message us a lot asking for recipes and methods.

"In the second lockdown, one pal suggested we made a separate account and it went from there."

Nicolle, 23, added: "It started as a way to pass time and entertain ourselves.

"But now it's really taken off and it's nice to see that we're helping other people."

With hot dogs, breads, pastas, curries, tarts and more on the page, Dos Cocineros has amassed hundreds of followers in a matter of weeks.

"The page was really flung together at the beginning," Nicolle added.

"But now it's grown arms and legs."

While the pair are used to producing fine dining on a daily basis, they stress that anyone can re-create the Dos Cocineros dishes.

Kevin added: "We're working with a four gas hob at home, not some fancy kitchen.

"Everything is doable.

"Lots of people are on furlough right now so we wanted to make the recipes affordable too.

"Most of the dishes come from store cupboard stuff and a lot of the main meals can work out at around £2 or £3 a head."
