A violent chef who tried to gouge his wife's eyes out in a lockdown row has been jailed.
Christopher Carr, 27, delivered the "substantial beating", which left his partner with blackened, swollen eyes and severe bruises all over her body.
She told a court she thought she was going to die after Carr had tasted the curry she had cooked and tipped the rest into the kitchen sink.
The chef then hit his wife, punched her and stamped on her repeatedly at their home in Consett, County Durham.
The senseless also then grabbed a small table and used it to beat her on the back.

But Carr was today jailed for one year and six months after admitting assault causing actual bodily harm.
Sentencing at Durham Crown Court, Judge James Adkin also banned Carr from any further contact with his victim.
She had told the court Carr had been violent towards her in the past but never as badly as this attack, which happened on Saturday March 28 - days into the UK coronavirus lockdown.
The judge heard Carr, a chef at a County Durham hotel, had been drinking moments before the rage.
Neighbours heard the commotion and rushed to help the victim.
Richard Herrmann, defending, said: "It was a nasty attack from which she was left battered and bruised, amid an at times, volatile relationship."
