Chef Simon Rimmer's 'terrified' daughter rushed to hospital after her drink was spiked

TV chef Simon Rimmer has revealed he had to rush his "very scared" daughter to hospital after her drink was spiked during an outing with friends several years ago.

The Sunday Brunch presenter has recalled the "horrible, horrible time" when Florence, 24, came home in a "right state" after having her drink tampered with.

Simon, 58, was a guest on Steph's Packed Lunch when the topic of conversation turned to the recent concerns about drink-spiking.

Over recent months, there has been a rise in the number of women reporting their drink being spiked while enjoying a night out in a club or bar.

In response to the concerning new trend, a number of groups have organised a boycott of nightclubs to highlight the threat facing young women on nights out.

Speaking on the Channel 4 show, Simon explained what happened when his then-teenage daughter was spiked.

"Flo’s 24 now but about five or six years ago she had her drink spiked. She’d been out for lunch with some friends and she’d had about three glasses of wine," the TV chef began explaining on Wednesday.

"She came home and was in a right state. We were saying to her 'how much have you had to drink?' and she said ‘I’ve literally had three glasses of wine, I’m really scared, I don’t know what’s happening'," he continued.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star then went on to reveal he and concerned wife Ali ended up taking their eldest child to the hospital.

"We took her to A&E and… they sort of thought, you’re just over-anxious parents your daughter’s had too much to drink.

"But it wasn’t, the behaviour was completely different. It really really shook her up, it was a horrible, horrible time."

Simon was then quizzed on how he felt seeing his daughter in such a state.

"You feel terrified… She’s very open, she’s pretty sensible, she likes to party like most young people do but you feel that fear that really hasn’t gone away," he confessed.

Simon shares Florence and son Hamish with Ali, his wife of more than two decades.

The star opened up about his long-term relationship last year and admitted communication is key to a happy marriage.

"I have been married for 22 years and like most people we have our ups and we have our downs," he told The Express in 2020.

"However, communication is so important – to be open and honest with someone about your feelings is just so important – and we have managed to stay strong and committed throughout all of the things we have been through."

The Merseyside-born chef then went on to speak about the pride he has for his two children.

"On a personal level, I am very happy and fortunate to have the family I do," he gushed.

"My wife is my rock and my partner in life and we have marvellous children who I am so proud of."

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4 and All 4
