Chef shares Michelin Star trick to make 'perfect' poached egg every time

When it comes to cooking, everyone has their own methods, recipes, tips and tricks they follow to get the food just how they like it. And for some it can be tricky to nail the techniques and have everything just right. But according to one cook, there's a simple way to ensure you make the 'perfect' poached eggs every time.

As reported by the Daily Record, a TikTok user named Russell, who posts under the name @eatlikeanadult, has gone viral on the social media platform after sharing a poached egg trick he claims to have learned from a Michelin Star chef - and now you can give it a go at home for yourself.

In his video, which has been viewed over one million times, he says: "In this video I'm going to show you how to make the perfect poached egg every time.

"When I was taught to make poached eggs in professional kitchens, I was told to add vinegar to the water and create a vigorous swirl but I recently saw a Michelin Star chef do it and I immediately adopted this new way because it's better in my opinion and I'm also not a Michelin Star chef, so there's that."

To give the method a go, the chef explains you'll need the freshest eggs you can find, at room temperature - he uses Clarence Court eggs.

Russel continues: "Get your water to a rolling simmer and then crack your egg into a sieve to it strains off those watery parts of the egg white for about a minute or so.

"Add a little bit of salt [to the water] and then the critical part is that you stir your water and you wait until it's the gentlest of swirls, so when it goes in, you've got the gentlest of movements so it doesn't stick."

Next he eases the egg out of the sieve into the moving water in one go and sets a timer for two minutes.

After two minutes he recommends testing the 'firmness' of the egg and if you're not happy, but it back in to get the 'finish' you like.

The TikToker admits he usually gives it another 30 seconds.

Once done, take the egg out of the water with a slotted spoon and put it on top of a paper towel before serving to get rid of any excess water.

Finish with a little salt and pepper and you're good to go.

Russel adds: "This method isn't foolproof, but give yourself time to learn and once you've got it, you've got a lifetime of perfect poached eggs."

More than 102,000 people have since liked the video, with hundreds commenting on it.

One person said: "It's 4am... I've not slept yet and I'm about to make this. I can't wait hahaha."

Another replied: "Looks nice."

While someone else added: "OMG! Can't wait to try this tomorrow!"
