Chef James Martin says the Raby Hunt cooked him the best meal he's eaten in the UK

TV chef James Martin says the greatest meal he's had in the UK was prepared by a self-taught chef at a restaurant in County Durham.

The Saturday Morning with James Martin presenter said he had the best meal he has ever eaten in Britain at the Raby Hunt, in Summerhouse near Darlington.

James invited the Raby Hunt's two-Michelin-star chef, , onto his programme for a live TV debut on Saturday morning.

The Raby Hunt owner prepared Tagiolini Carbonara with fresh truffle, for the ITV show. The dish was greeted with enthusiasm from Yorkshireman James Martin, who urged viewers to book a table at the Raby Hunt, saying his his experience was “the best meal I’ve ever eaten in the UK.”

The Raby Hunt's sous chef Maria Guseva appeared on the show with James. They showcased the Raby Hunt's signature 'chocolate skull', which has a filling of yuzu, Japanese black pepper and popping candy.

James Close said: "It was a fantastic experience and of course I was delighted to hear James say that the best meal he’s ever had in the UK was with us."

The Raby Hunt is the only restaurant in the North East to be awarded two Michelin stars.
