Chef jailed for 'vicious' lockdown attack on partner after complaining about her cooking

Christopher Carr, 27, from Consett, County Durham, has been jailed for 18 months following a sustained attack on his partner on 27 March 2020 because he was unhappy with her cooking. ( Durham Constabulary )

A chef has been jailed for a “vicious” attack on his partner because he was unhappy with her cooking.

Christopher Carr, 27, turned on his partner following a disagreement over a meal she had cooked him.

His victim told a court she thought she would be killed and was left terrified following the “sustained and nasty” attack at their home in Consett, County Durham.

Police have commended neighbours who rushed to help the woman after they overheard the disturbance.

Carr was sentenced to 18 months in jail at Durham Crown Court after admitting assault causing actual bodily harm to his victim.

Superintendent Dave Ashton, head of safeguarding at Durham Constabulary, said: “Abuse of any kind is never acceptable and will not be tolerated.

“We are pleased to see this perpetrator has received a prison sentence and hope his victim will be able to start to recover knowing she is safe from her attacker.

“Her neighbours showed bravery by intervening and the victim herself showed incredible courage by helping us bring her attacker to justice.

“We would appeal for anyone who is suffering domestic abuse, or anyone who is concerned about someone they know, to reach out and speak to someone.”
