A CHILEAN chef who flipped his car on to its roof at Corlette while more than three times the legal limit has been told he was "lucky" not to have killed or seriously injured someone.
Sebastian Elias Carvajal Berrios, 35, of Corlette, was represented by solicitor Drew Hamilton when he appeared in Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday.
He pleaded guilty to high-range drink driving and was fined $850 and disqualified from driving for seven months. Police said Carvajal was heading west on Sandy Point Road at Corlette about 4.55am on December 17 when his Mazda 6 collided with a Ford Falcon and flipped on to its roof.
Police arrived and Carvajal admitted to drinking between 5 and 7 beers before getting behind the wheel.
He was breath-tested and returned a reading of 0.176, more than three times over the legal blood alcohol limit.
