Cheetham Hill shooting: Yobs attack VW Golf and BMW before gunman opens fire in the street

A gunman opened fire on a north Manchester street after youths attacked two parked cars.

The yobs attacked a Golf and BMW on New Mill Walk in Cheetham Hill on Good Friday (April 2).

As they did, a gunman got out of the BMW and shots were fired.

The group of youths 'dispersed', before the two cars were driven away.

No reports of injuries have been received by cops.

Detectives say they believe the shooting was an 'isolated incident'.

Police were alerted at 6.10pm.

A small car park off Alderford Parade was later cordoned off as forensic officers carried out a search, as well as part of Waterloo Road.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers attended and located evidence consistent with a firearm discharge.

"Enquiries have since established that a group of youths attacked two stationary vehicles - a BMW and VW Golf.

"One occupant then got out of the BMW and shots were fired.

"The group then dispersed and the two vehicles left the scene towards Waterloo Road. No injuries have been reported.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries remain ongoing."

Detective Inspector Anna Barker of GMP's City of Manchester division, said: "We appreciate there is concern amongst the community in relation to the recent violence in the area and I want to reassure the public we are working round the clock to ensure those responsible are identified.

"We currently have additional officers patrolling the area whilst our investigation continues.

"Thankfully no injuries have been reported following this incident but this reckless behaviour can have devastating and fatal consequences.

"We believe this incident to be isolated with no wider threat posed to the general public but I do stress that if you are worried or concerned about these recent events, please do speak with police or approach officers in the area.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and we're appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or witnessed the firearm discharge to come forward and speak with police. Any information, no matter how small, could be crucial to our investigation."
