Cheetham Hill fire: Dramatic footage as huge blaze tears through building

A huge fire has engulfed a building in Manchester, with dozens of firefighters battling the blaze.

Eight fire engines and two aerial platforms are at the scene near the Manchester Fort shopping park in Cheetham Hill.

Images being shared on social media show a huge plume of smoke and flames reaching up into the night sky and visible for miles, the Manchester Evening News reports.

The fire broke out shortly before 10pm on an industrial park on Bradstone Road, off Broughton Road and Cheetham Hill Road.

Incident Commander GM Steve Jordan said: “Our crews have been working hard in challenging conditions to bring this fire under control and stop it spreading to nearby buildings.

“While the fire is not close to any nearby homes, we do urge people to stay away from the area and keep doors and windows closed if they are affected by smoke.”

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed firefighters were called at 9.48pm.

A two-storey commercial building was said to be 'well alight'.

There were no initial reports of any injuries.

The only road closure is Bradston Road and the nearby Jewish Museum is unaffected, according to the incident commander.

He added: “It’s in the middle of an industrial estate so it’s not affecting any residential areas."

One picture taken in Ancoats, around two miles away from the blaze, showed a plume of smoke rising into the night sky.
