Cheese, ice-cream and noodles that you need to bin from Tesco, Dunnes and Supervalu after urgent recall

A number of products have been removed from supermarket shelves over the past week due to food safety concerns.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued several recalls for a number of batches of specific products.

Customers have been urged to check their fridges, freezers and cupboards for affected items and follow the issued advice on what to do next.

Retailers who stock the impacted products will have point of sale notices posted in their stores and provide shoppers with refunds for returning any affected batches.

Below are all of the current recall notices in effect for several Irish shops:

Lucky Me Instant Noodles

Lucky Me Instant Noodles (FSAI)

The batches of Lucky Me! Instant Noodles detailed in the table below are being recalled due to the presence of the unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide. This pesticide is not authorised for use in foods sold in the EU.

Although consuming the contaminated product does not pose an acute risk to health, there may be health issues if there is continued consumption of ethylene oxide over a long period. Therefore, exposure to this substance needs to be minimised.

Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches.

Häagen-Dazs Vanilla collection (FSAI)

Batches of Häagen-Dazs Vanilla tub and Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Collection ice cream are being recalled due to the presence of the unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide.

Ethylene oxide is a pesticide that is not permitted for use in foods sold in the EU but is approved for use by other countries outside the EU.

Although the consumption of the contaminated product does not pose an acute risk to health, there is an increased risk if there is continued consumption of ethylene oxide in contaminated food over a long period of time. Therefore, exposure to ethylene oxide needs to be minimised.

Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches.

The batches affected are all best before dates up to and including 21st May 2023.

Roma Formaggio Da Pasta

Roma Formaggio Da Pasta (FSAI)

Valeo Foods is recalling a batch of Roma Formaggio Da Pasta due to the possible presence of mould.

The Foodie Market Milled Brown Flaxseed

Flaxseed (FSAI)

Aldi is recalling a batch of The Foodie Market Milled Brown Flaxseed due to the detection of Salmonella Typhimurium.

Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in Aldi stores supplied with the implicated batch.

People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours.

The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days.

Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have more severe illness.

Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batch.

The affected batches include: L131315; best before date: end of January 2023
