Cheese dips into the classroom

Instructions and advice pour in on teachers from all kinds of boards - examination boards, boards of governors and now the cheese board.

Struggling to find classroom materials for citizenship, personal or health education? Cheese is the answer.

Do you want your pupils to develop skills such as listening, interaction and respect for classmates? The British Cheese Board (yes!) has the PSHE pack for you.

Nutrition is the strong point of an organisation which has invented the Balanced Meal Game for primary schools and instructions for making a pop-up book about cheese.

The Choose Cheese pack "guides teachers through issues such as healthy eating, fats and the importance of calcium in the diet so that children can learn how to make informed choices about their eating habits". And of course, eat cheese. There are photocopyable worksheets and citizenship links.

Remember children: "Cheese not only tastes great but is also a good source of calcium and should play an important part in a nutritionally balanced diet".

And did you know there are over 700 varieties of British cheese, according to the board. A variety, one feels, that is emblematic of the diversity of British society in the 21st century .....or is that too cheesy?
