Cheese Christmas crackers are about to go on sale in Sainsbury's and Asda

Forget dry turkey and overly sweet chocolate, everyone knows that the most important food on the Christmas dinner table is the cheese.

And what better way to celebrate the heavenly staple that with the UK's first ever cheese-filled cracker.

Inside each cracker is two portions of tasty cheese (one stick of creamy, salty Ilchester Cheddar Cheese made in the West Country and one stick of smooth and nutty Ilchester Red Leicester), as well as five mini oatcakes to serve it on, and a jar of tangy Tiptree Tomato Chutney.

As it's Christmas, you'll also get an obligatory paper hat and an extra cheesy joke, as is tradition for Christmas dinner.

In more good news, it doesn't cost a fortune either, setting you back just £3 per cracker.

Sadly, you have a while to wait before you can get your hands on them, with the crackers set to launch in Sainsbury's supermarkets on December 4th, as well as at Asda and Ocado.

However, the creator of the cracker - food blogger Annem Hobson - encourages fans to help her convince retailers to stock it via her website So Wrong Its Nom.

Emma Garvey, Cheese Buyer for Sainsbury’s, said: "We’re always looking for distinctive products to offer our customers, especially at Christmas when people are on the lookout for something new and special.

We’re excited to be introducing the Cheese Cracker this year, to cater to cheese aficionados nationwide. The cracker makes for the perfect addition to a festive feast and we can’t wait to hear the response from our customers."
