We know that Canberra produces great beer, and it seems the rest of the world does as well.
Canberra's BentSpoke Brewing Co has taken out first- and second-place awards at the "Oscars of the brewing industry".
This year's International Brewing Awards saw BentSpoke take out a gold medal win in the Smallpack ale class for their IPA Crankshaft. Meanwhile, BentSpoke's Barley Griffin, their Canberra pale ale, took out silver in the same category.
Meanwhile, in the strong beer class, BentSpoke took out a silver medal with Red Nut, their red IPA.
Unlike other awards that rank multiple beers or breweries per medal, the International Beer Awards only names one per class.
With more than 130 years of history, the awards are recognised and judged by professional brewers and considered to be one of the top three major awards globally.
"We are really proud to see our city up there on the world stage and our beers recognised by other professional brewers," head brewer and co-founder of BentSpoke Brewing Co Richard Watkins said.
"With the craft beer and cider industry growing and changing every year, it's no easy feat to maintain podium finishes, so we're really humbled and proud of that. These awards are really good recognition for our team and our commitment to beer quality"
Historically, BentSpoke has performed well at the International Brewery Awards winning gold and silver in 2019 and 2017 for both Crankshaft and Barley Griffin.
