A cheeky suggestion to rename a council gritter ‘Mar-grit Ferrier the Super Spreader’ after Hamilton West’s under-fire MP has proved a big hit.
South Lanarkshire launched a competition to come up with puns for their gritter fleet.
And one suggestion on Facebook got a lot of backing from the public.
When the Hamilton Advertiser reported on the council competition, Barry Martin took to our page with the ‘Mar-grit Ferrier’ suggestion.
And so far, he has picked up almost 50 ‘likes’ for his post.
However, the council won’t be going for it as the competition is only open to school pupils.
Last year’s competition for South Lanarkshire Council’s Roads department saw Gritter Thunberg, Lewis Caploughdi, Salt Disnae, Oh Plougher of Scotland, Nitty McGritty, Gritty McVitie, Snow Coo and Spready Mercury out gritting the roads, supported by Snow Blow Patrol the snow blower.
The MP was dumped by the SNP group in Westminster after she travelled from Glasgow to London by train with Covid-19 symptoms in September and then made the return journey after testing positive.
