Cheeky Spice Girls note from 1997 found under wallpaper of woman's new home

When it comes to renovating your home, the most essential part to a smooth and pristine finish is the preparation work. And it was during this process that one homeowner found an amusing note from 1997 hidden under their wallpaper - and it left them in fits of laughter, the Mirror reports.

Concealed under the wallpaper, the comical note stated that the writer would ''eat their overalls'' if the Spice Girls were still popular with chart-topping records by the time the wallpaper was removed. The cheeky note reads: "It's the 5th October 1997. If the Spice Girls are still popular next time this room is decorated, I'll eat my overalls. By Dad."

An image of the note was uploaded to Reddit by user AnheB1818 and has gone viral after receiving more than 33,000 and about 1,400 comments. While the majority of users found the dad's note funny, others commenting on the post revealed the secret messages they have found in their own homes.

One user shared: "I wrote my name on a basement support beam in my childhood home when we moved out. A few months ago I managed to get into that house and walked around.

The dad wrote the cheeky note in 1997 (Reddit)

"My handwriting of my name was exactly as I left it in 1988, 29 years ago. Nobody added to it, nobody removed it."

Another user revealed: "My garage has the names and ages of the previous owners' kids written on a wall. They were high school graduates when I bought the house so they must have done it well over a decade ago.

"I have no intention of erasing or altering it because I think it's a kind of cool little snapshot of my house's history." A third user said: "When I was a kid I put a list of all the swearwords I knew in the vent in my room.

"One day it wasn't there - I'm guessing my parents must have found it but never said anything. 12 years have passed but I'm still paranoid that one day they'll bring it up."

Commenting on the dad's message, one user joked: "In 2050 the wallpaper is also removed. 'If President Bieber gets re-elected, I'll swallow my lace shorts. Dad'."
