Cheeky Scots students go viral with hilarious lockdown window display in Edinburgh

Cheeky students are spreading some lockdown cheer with a hilarious display in Edinburgh.

The four flatmates decided to pass the time by adding funny phrases, questions and isolation suggestions to the window of their Marchmont flat.

They quickly gathered an impressive following on Instagram and were pleased to see passersby laughing and taking pictures of their hand-made signs.

On Friday, they urged fellow Scots to be like Rapunzel and stay at home because she was rescued by a prince for her efforts.

They are now appealing for help and suggestions on what to feature in the coming weeks and will continue sharing updates on their roseneathquarantine social media page.

One of the students, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “It started off as a joke a few weeks ago, just before lockdown started.

“We thought it would be funny because it was going to be my birthday and we were going to have a party.

“Obviously we had to cancel it so my flatmates decided to put a happy birthday sign in the window so people outside would know.

“It kind of just went from there. We decided to keep it up and were originally going to do ideas for things to do in isolation but we ran out of things pretty quickly.

“It is quite funny watching people walk past. You can tell if it's a good sign or not because people will stop and laugh or take photos. Or they’ll just look at it and just walk away.”

The second flatmate added: “We hope to keep it going as long as we can - it definitely looks like it’s going to be another three weeks probably.

“We’re beginning to scrape the bottom of the barrel with ideas of what to do next. We spend several hours each night contemplating what should go on next.”
