A Greggs store in Pitlochry has been forced to close its doors after a cheeky red squirrel was found to have set up shop. The bizarre scene was captured by local resident Shona Rollo, who snapped pictures of the critter having a wee nosey about the bakery on Sunday.
The animal was initially found high up in the roof rafters meaning rescuers were unable to catch it. Greggs have confirmed that the store will remain closed until the Scottish SPCA have been able to get their hands on it.
Pitlochry High School shared a picture of the adventurous critter on Twitter and said: “There’s a red squirrel in Pitlochry Greggs branch. The Scottish Wildlife Trust are on hand to help the wee guy out, but as this is a popular lunch option for secondary pupils, there’s a high chance it will be closed again tomorrow. Nuts!”
A spokesman for Greggs said: “Greggs in Pitlochry is closed on Monday due to a red squirrel being found in the shop. We’re making sure the squirrel is rescued and let back into the woodland. Once the shop has been thoroughly cleaned, the shop will reopen as normal.”

And a Scottish SPCA spokesperson added: “We were initially contacted about a squirrel in the roof of a premises in Pitlochry on Saturday. As the squirrel was very high up in the rafters we advised the member of the public to leave an exit for the squirrel in the hope the animal would come down of their own accord.
“Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case and a member of our animal rescue team is now in the process of trying to gain access to the shop to assess the situation.”
