The Cheeky Girls' This Morning appearance hit by studio blunder as new careers revealed

The Cheeky Girls big TV comeback nearly didn't happen after they suffered a huge blunder on their way to appear on This Morning, before revealing their surprising new careers.

It's hard to believe that it's now been 20 years since twins Monica and Gabriela, now 39, first appeared on British screens, when they tried out for talent show Popstars: The Rivals, in front of judges Pete Waterman, Geri Halliwell and Louis Walsh, singing their original track The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum). While the siblings' Popstars hopes were dashed at the first hurdle, they definitely had the last laugh as The Cheeky Song became a top 3 hit and was followed my two more.

While other Popstars: The Rivals contestants faded into obscurity, The Cheeky Girls stayed in the limelight years later, with their other hits including Have A Cheeky Christmas and Cheeky Holiday. Gabriela made the headlines thanks to her romance with MP Lembit Opik, ex of TV weather host Sian Lloyd, while the girls became famous for their ageless looks and stunning figures.

Having not seen them on TV for a few years, it came as shock to ITV viewers when This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby announced The Cheeky Girls were coming up as studio guests. Holly teased: "Celebrating 20 years since their iconic debut, the twins tell us about getting back into the music industry."

And it was then that Phillip revealed to people watching at home that things hadn't entirely gone to plan as Monica and Gabriela had turned up at the wrong studio! The presenter explained: "Well, we hope they're going to be here as, actually, they're so retro that they went to the old studio on the South Bank," with Holly adding: "They're currently travelling across London trying to get here."

The Cheeky Girls did managed to make it to the new This Morning studio in time and, during their interview with Phillip and Holly, confirmed the rumours that they were now both working in car dealerships, for different companies. Monica and Gabriela both joked that they'd had customers who'd been left thrilled at being sold a car by a Cheeky Girl, before also announcing new single Let's Have Fun.
