Cheeky dogs Roxie, Riley and Reka recreate Elf on the Shelf in adorable snaps

Inspired by the Elf on the Shelf craze, one cute pooch has perfected re-enacting the photos, dressed in an elf suit recreating its pesky behaviour.

Six-year-old dog, Roxie, is being dressed up as an elf every day in the lea dup to Christmas by his owner, 63-year-old Linda Kush, who poses the pooch with a sequence of props.

Roxie, who has become known imaginatively as Elf Dog, can be seen in a number of funny snaps from simply sitting on a shelf, to wrapping up her sister, Riley, or toasting marshmallows over an open flame.

Owner, Ms Kush, says that Elf Dog began in 2018 and the response has always been so positive she restarted it for a third year running, from the beginning of this month.

The former dog trainer told Mirror Online about her well behaved pooches and making the hilarious shots.

She said: "Roxie has been Elf Dog for the past two years but she and her sister, Riley, five, are so patient that each image takes no longer than five minutes to complete.

"I use my imagination for most of the shots and the dogs love wearing clothes so all good fun.

"I remember first seeing Elf on the Shelf in 2018 and thinking it was really silly.

"I don't have children and decided to create my own with something even better, a real life dog."

Ms Kush has dozens of funny shots, but her favourite is Roxie with the real Elf on the Shelf in her teeth, dangling over the toilet as sister Riley prepares to press the flush.

The pooches seemingly intent to make their Christmas takeover permanent.

Roxie is a Vizla, and Riley is a Weimaraner and both big dogs have been doing it for years now, but Reka, Roxie's younger sister is intended to take over from her next year.

This year, the seven-month-old is too young to take the reins.

Linda says she sometimes surprised herself with her creativity and has received dozens of heart felt messages online.

She adds: "My dogs are my world and it's lovely to know we have made so many others smile.

"I always receive messages from people who say 'you've made my day' or my 'you've made my heart smile.'

"As 2020 has been rough for everyone it has been eagerly anticipated by a lot of my friends and family online.

"I'll create a unique idea each day up until December 24 so we have plenty of photos on the way."
