Checkpoints Dublin: Over 250 motorists tested and four arrested for ‘driving while intoxicated' in Tallaght after Bank Holiday weekend

Over 250 motorists were tested and four were arrested for 'driving while intoxicated' on Bank Holiday Monday.

The MIT checkpoint took place on the N81 dual carriageway in Tallaght as part of ongoing road safety and enforcement activities by Dublin based Roads Policing Units.

Thirty-six Gardaí from the Roads Policing Units and other Dublin Divisions took part in the operation.

Gardai said that: "Four motorists were arrested, two for alcohol and two for drugs.

"Court proceedings will follow. Driving while intoxicated can have life changing consequences."

This comes after a motorist who never held a driving licence was arrested on suspicion of drug driving in Dublin.

The driver was pulled over on Sunday night after being spotted driving erratically.

Gardai from the Dublin Roads Policing Unit arrested the uninsured driver after they tested positive for cannabis.

A garda tweet said: "Car observed driving erratically last night in Dublin.

"Driver had no insurance, NEVER held a driving licence and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. Court proceeding to follow."

Another intoxicated driver was arrested on Walkinstown Avenue in Dublin after they arrived at the checkpoint with a flat tyre.

The motorist became the most recent person to be caught driving while intoxicated over the May bank holiday weekend.

Around the country, another a further three motorists were nabbed either drug driving while a fourth driver was arrested for drink driving.
