Checklist of everything you need when travelling to Spain

Spain is a beautiful country that frequently appears in top 10 travel destinations for those seeking sun, sand and sangria. For some a holiday abroad is the first break in over two years, which may have been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Navigating your way through lists of travel documentation, especially if it has been a while, may be difficult. You may have forgotten what is and isn’t allowed.

Also, fast-moving travel guidelines that change with the mercurial travel landscape may render it difficult to figure out what exactly you need before you even step foot in an airport. Here is our handy guide showing key information about everything you need when travelling to Spain.

Checklist of everything you need to travel to Spain

  • In date passport that is less than 10 years' old and has three months validity
  • Correct Covid-19 status documentation (EU Digital Covid Certificate or SpTH Health Control Form)
  • Negative Covid-19 test

You need to have an in date passport to travel to Spain

European Union requirements state that a passenger’s passport must be less than 10 years old and have a minimum of three months' validity on the passenger's return date. This means that if you’re planning to travel this summer, you need to check your passport’s expiry date and also ensure you are returning with more than three months on your passport.

The fastest and easiest way to renew your passport is to start your renewal application by visiting the online portal. Passport turnaround times vary greatly and complex renewals can take up to 15 days.

You need to have the right Covid status before travel

Despite many restrictions being eased, some countries still have some rules in place. People travelling to Spain must show valid proof of one of the following:

  • Be fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to arrival in Spain
  • If you have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months, you can use a medical certificate or recovery record to prove your COVID-19 status on entry to Spain

Don’t worry if you don’t have an EU Digital Covid Certificate. You can complete a Health Control Form before travel instead. Upon completion, you will get a QR code which you can show at time of boarding and when you arrive in Spain.

If you have children under the age of 12, they are not required to show an EU Digital Covid Certificate or complete the Health Control Form.
