Check if your car can run on E10 petrol

Petrol stations will a new type of unleaded petrol from today (Wednesday 1 September).

E10, which will supposedly reduce car emissions and contribute to reducing greenhouse gases, will replace replacing E-5 petrol which is usually mixed with a maximum of 5 per cent bioethanol.

However, an impact assessment from last year estimated that around 600,000 cars will be unable to use the fuel due to compatibility issues.

If your car is incompatible with E-10 you can still use E-5 which will come in the form of super unleaded petrol - unfortunately, it will cost 8.7p a litre more than E-10, according to AA figures.

How to find out if your car is compatible with E10

It's very easy to find out if your car can run E10 petrol, all you need is a device that can access the internet and some key details around your vehicle.

Head to the government's website which has a free E-10 compatibility checker - you can find the website here .

You'll need to know the manufacturer of your car to use the service.

Furthermore, you'll need to know the vehicle model, engine size, and year it was produced.

It's highly likely that classic cars and many produced in the early 2000s will be unable to run on E10 fuel.
