The start of October saw 15 million households hit by £139 bill increases as prices hit record highs.
Analysts also warned that households could see their energy bills rise by 30 per cent next year with more suppliers potentially collapsing.
The price rises are based on numerous factors, which include the costs of energy to suppliers and further operating costs.
This has been put down to a cold winter last year in Europe, which saw pressure on gas supplies leading to lower stored gas levels this year as a consequence according to the BBC.
These issues have seen some energy suppliers such as Avro Energy, People’s Energy and Green Supplier Ltd collapse.
