'Cheated' - Nottingham Forest legend weighs in on debate about fans walking out of City Ground early

Nottingham Forest were 4-0 down at half-time on Saturday - I can completely understand those fans who booed.

And I don’t blame the ones who left the City Ground early, at half-time. At all.

They come to support Nottingham Forest; they want to see their team perform well and win. That didn’t happen against Sheffield Wednesday. We were nowhere near good enough. We were a disgrace.

You’d feel cheated spending your cash to watch that.

Supporters pay good, hard-earned money to go to games - it’s not cheap when you have tickets, travel, programmes, food… it all adds up.

If you paid for a ticket to watch something at the cinema and the film wasn’t shown, or you went to the theatre but the actors didn’t show up, you’d demand your money back.

The Forest players didn’t turn up at the weekend, so fans have every right to boo, to criticise and to walk out.

It was an embarrassing performance.

We didn’t do anything to get the supporters going; to get them fired up and jumping out of their seats.

I’m sure some of those fans who left early will have got some stick from others - people saying that’s not showing support for your team.

But they are fanatics of Nottingham Forest, they don’t want to see their club getting beat. And that’s what they saw on Saturday - their team being humiliated.

I hope it made the players feel embarrassed when they heard the booing and saw the stands emptied.

The players take praise when they win games and play well. So they absolutely should take it right on the chin after a game like Saturday, because they were a disgrace.

Kenny Burns was this week speaking to Sarah Clapson.
