General tickets sales for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics will start next summer, the organizing committee announced Friday, with the cheapest price set at 900, yen or 8, dollars to encourage young generations to attend events.
According to the general outline released by the organizing committee, tickets for the opening ceremony come with the highest price tag, the maximum at 150,000 yen. All prices include tax.
Among the 22 sports on the program in Tokyo, prices for swimming and wheelchair basketball -- which are popular in Japan -- are the highest. The most expensive is 7,000 yen.
Tickets for the opening ceremony have been set high to maintain the value of the Tokyo Games as a whole, including the Olympics.
Meanwhile, the organizing committee offered a wide range of price options, including the minimum cost of 900 yen for goalball, taekwondo and wheelchair fencing, to enable spectators more access to the events.
"We want as many as people possible, especially the children who will take us into the next era and young people, to watch events and to gain a better understanding of sports for the disabled," an organizing committee official said.
The committee also plans to offer special tickets for target groups, such as children, the elderly and disabled people, just as for the Olympic Games. The ticket prices for those demographics have yet to be decided.
