Asda

Of course Asda is generally considered to be on of the cheaper supermarkets - but do the delivery charges match this? Our research found that slots, depending on the time and day, were priced in a range of £2.50 to £4.50 - which compares very well with other major outlets.

Weekly average for one home delivery slot a week - £3.50

Monthly average for one home delivery slot a week - £14

You can sign up for the ‘delivery pass’ monthly subscription for £6 a week. The average cost for getting a pay-as-you-shop delivery slot on your weekly shop is lower than other supermarkets at £14 for the month, the delivery pass would save shoppers a further £8 a month, and Asda estimates that the pass could save shoppers around £128 a year.

Morrisons

Delivery slots for pay-as-you-shop delivery slots at Morrisons are from £2 to £5.50.

Weekly average for one home delivery slot a week - £3.75

Monthly average for one home delivery slot a week - £15

Morrisons does offer more options than most with yearly, every six months, and monthly passes available. In this scheme a pass from Mon - Sun is £65 for the year (which works out at £5.40 a month which is very good value), £40 for six months or £8 for one month, Tuesday to Thursday - £35 per annum, £20 for six months or £5 for one month.

Tesco

Tesco offers a special high speed option of Whoosh delivery with the shopping arriving at the door within an hour of ordering costing £5. The delivery slots vary between £2 and £7 depending when you want them to arrive with a monthly saver package costing £7.99 for orders over £40. The delivery saver option entitles customers to get orders one a day for the entire month. If shoppers were to get one shop a week for four weeks, they would make a saving of £10.01 a month..

Monthly average for one home delivery slot a week - £18

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s deliveries generally range from £4 to £6.50. There is no package option so if you get one shop a week delivered it would probably be around £24 per month.

Weekly average for one home delivery slot a week - £5.25

Monthly average for one home delivery slot a week - £24

Aldi

Aldi doesn’t home deliver groceries but instead you can chose click and collect and pick them up from the store nearest to your home. You can get Specialbuy or alcohol delivered. This costs £3.95 for Specialbuy next day, large item next or named day £6.95, extra large item £9.95 which takes 2-7 working days from the date you place your order.

Wine and spirits next day or named day delivery - £6.95

Wine and spirits standard delivery - £4.95. Delivery takes 3-5 working days from the date you place your order.

Standard delivery over £30 - Free. Delivery takes 3-5 working days from the date you place your order.

Ocado

Ocado price ranges for delivery ranges from £2.99 and £6.99, with free delivery on some shops over £75 - meaning if you do big family purchases at once then it could really work for you, as well as free delivery on your first shop.

Monthly average for one home delivery slot a week - £19.96

When you sign up to Ocado, you can save £20 on your first grocery shop when you spend over £80 online by entering VOU2653782 at the checkout.

Iceland

Iceland delivery services require customers to spend a minimum of £35 to make an order for delivery online, but when they do it is absolutely free to deliver and shoppers can even get their groceries the very next day. Same day delivery is also offered, subject to availability, however this costs more.

Monthly average for one home delivery slot a week - Free

Same day delivery - £6

A weekly shop at Iceland, so long as you don’t opt for same day delivery, will cost shoppers absolutely nothing per month.

Waitrose

Waitrose offer just one delivery cost across the board, and they require customers to spend £40 on groceries.

Weekly average for one home delivery slot a week - £3

Monthly average for one home delivery slot a week - £12

Waitrose delivery charges would set families back just £12 a month if they were to order 4 weekly shops.

So looking across the board then Iceland is a good option with free deliveries - but customers might not find all the range of items they want there. Ocado could be excellent for large families who like the finer things in life with their free deliveries for orders over £75. For those looking for one delivery a week Morrisons is an excellent option with its delivery pass which offers a year for £65 - or £5.40 a month. Just behind is Asda at £6 per month. For a one off Waitrose at £3 isn’t a bad option - but the food itself might be quite expensive.
