Cheapest supermarket crowned 'unbeatable' and it's not Tesco, Asda or Morrisons

The cheapest supermarket has been announced and it has kept it's winner's place for the seventh year running.

Just in time for the big shop, customers are always on the lookout for the best deals in the supermarkets.

In a survey by The Grocer, this household favourite proves to be 'unbeatable' after keeping it's top place since 2014.

For a basket of 33 essential items, Aldi has come out on top as the cheapest supermarket, Express reports.

The budget store has remained in first place since it was first analysed by The Grocer alongside the UK's other major supermarkets in 2014.

In an independant price comparison survey, Aldi proved that it was the UK's lowest priced store.

A basket of 33 products is £10.15 cheaper – or 23 percent cheaper – in Aldi than in the Big Four supermarkets-Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

Aldi is also cheaper than its closest rival, Lidl.

Thirty-three essential items from Tesco cost £10.23 more expensive than from Aldi, according to The Grocer.

On the other side of the price range, Waitrose is the most expensive UK supermarket.

A basket of 33 items bought in Waitrose is £25.06 pricier – or 56 percent – than a shopping bag of the same number of items from Aldi.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, commented on Aldi’s win. She said: “The nation knows that Aldi won’t be beaten on price.

“That is our promise to customers and one we will always keep.

“We understand that it’s been another challenging year for many people, and as we move towards the festive season we want to help families and friends get together.

“We’re committing to helping our customers do just that by offering the award-winning quality and unbeatable prices they can only find at Aldi.”
