Cheapest Scottish city to buy a pint revealed

Edinburgh has been named as the priciest place in Scotland to buy a pint - and the fifth most expensive in the UK.

Pints in the capital cost on average £4.19, higher than the UK average of £3.72, with Glasgow pints available from around a more reasonable £3.79.

Perth has the lowest price in Scotland, with pints costing as low as £3.07 on average.

Research by personal finance website finder.com found other Scottish cities were all below the UK average, with Inverness at £3.62, Aberdeen at £3.60 and Dundee at £3.29.

The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh's North Bridge prices all of its pints at around £7, making it one of the most expensive places to buy a pint in the capital and ahead of the average London pint price of £5.18.

In comparison, those in search of a cheap pint would be best placed to have a student card handy for the best deals.

A pint of Tennents in Edinburgh's Southsider bar with a student card costs only £2.15.

Despite being the most expensive place in Scotland for a pint, Edinburgh is still on average lower than many English cities.

Fans of beer in Brighton have to part with £4.53 for a pint, Cambridge residents pay £4.40 and Bristolians hand over £4.36 on average.
