Winter sunseekers can snap up some serious discounts this festive season after a travel firm revealed the cheapest days to getaway - with some air fares as low as £11.
Luxury travel firm Destination2 looked at the most popular destinations for UK travellers and found the cheapest - and most pricey - days to fly this festive season. Its data confirmed it's possible to obtain huge savings for those with some flexibility and annual leave left to use this December.
Flights to the Maldives can be booked for as little as £268 from London Heathrow on December 10. However, travellers looking to travel a week later will be looking at a significant price hike - the most expensive day to travel to Malé is December 17, when flights are £391.
Travellers with some flexibility in the dates they’re willing to jet to the sun can make substantial savings.
Passengers could save an incredible £234 on winter sun holidays to Barbados, simply by opting to fly in early December rather than the week before Christmas.
Flights to Dubrovnik are £268 cheaper on December 15 rather than December 19, meaning plenty of savings on a Croatia Christmas holiday.
And there are some great bargains to be had closer to home with December flights being sold for a basic price of just £11 to hotspots in Spain, Portugal, Malta and Greece.
Will Collins, digital marketing manager at Destination2, said: “We’ve all heard the myth that flying on Christmas Day is worth it for the savings - however our study found that actually most cheap festive flights depart early in December. So, travellers get the best of both worlds - take advantage of amazing offers on festive holidays and still spend the big day with your family.
“There are some massive deals to be had on festive winter sun holidays this year. We’ve seen a big upturn in demand for bucket-list destinations like the Maldives and Dubai, with so many of us ready to splash out on a big holiday with loved ones after a year and a half of travel lockdowns."
He added: We predict festive travel, continuing into the New Year period, will be at its most popular this year.”
