All is fair in love and war – or is it?
If you’ve ever watched MMA, you probably know touching gloves signifies respect – one of the founding principles of martial arts.
So when a fighter puts his hands up to touch gloves and then goes on the attack, it usually attracts attention – despite its legality. At a regional show in Michigan on Saturday night, this exact sequence occurred. The discussion that followed was no different than the norm.
Lights Out Championship 6 took place at Deltaplex Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich. On the evening’s undercard, flyweights Jagarr Jenerou and Cedric Santana squared off in a bout which signified both of their amateur debuts.
Both raised their hands to signify to glove touch at the start of the round. But when it came time to touch ’em up, Jenerou blitzed Santana. Moments later Jenerou picked up a quick TKO stoppage.
Was it a cheap shot, fair play, or simply a result of inexperience?
