Cheap flights out of Bristol Airport ahead of lockdown restrictions easing on Monday

For almost a year, we've not been able to venture much further than our local supermarket.

But all that is about to change on Monday (May 17) when the next stage of restrictions are eased and international travel can resume.

Many services, such as pubs, restaurants and cafes reopened for outdoor service on April 12 as well as nail salons and hairdressers, as well as non-essential retail.

But what it didn't see, was a lift on the strict travel restrictions that have been put in place to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

To tackle this, as England goes into the next phase of the roadmap out of lockdown, a traffic light system that divides countries based on their Covid risk levels has been drawn up.

Grant Shapps, the Transport Secretary, outlined in a Downing Street press conference on Friday evening, the Government's plans for the 'traffic light' style of system for international travel.

It means countries will be ranked green, amber, or red depending on the risk they pose and will have different criteria for travel to and from the UK for passengers.

Since the announcement, Thomas Cook has already seen a 250 per cent increase in bookings for Portugal holidays.
